About Me
My research interests revolve around the use of isotope geochemistry and mineralogy as tools to interpret records of environmental change and processes governing mineral precipitation and deposit formation.
Throughout my PhD, I have been focused on the study of perennially ice-covered lakes, lake carbonates, and paleolake deposits in Antarctica's McMurdo Dry Valleys (the largest ice-free region in the continent). The geology of the dry valleys highlights a rich history of lake level fluctuations, with abundant carbonate mineral phases in both paleolake deposits resulting from these changes (e.g., Miers Valley) as well as precipitating in modern lakes (e.g., Lake Fryxell, Lake Joyce). As such, these are ideal sites to reconstruct lake change through time and understand its connection to regional climatic changes since the Last Glacial Maximum.
At the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez, my M.S. research focused on the under-studied ore deposits of the island, particularly the Tibes Fe Skarn. As part of a collaboration between the University of Puerto Rico and Auburn University, I studied the chemistry of garnet and their relationship to the skarn lithology to unravel the timing and fluid evolution throughout the formation of the skarn. As a graduate student, I also had the opportunity to be a Lab Instructor for Petrology and Mineralogy as well as a Teaching Assistant for Field Geology in the summers.
